I would most certainly say that working on our group’s artist presentation for the conceptual artist Mark Lombardi has taught me a great deal about someone who, when I initially saw his art, did not think of him as an ‘artist’. To tell you the truth, he wasn’t, not in the traditional sense. Lombardi focused more on the idea of the work rather than the look or creation, which greatly showed through his level of minimalism. I was greatly intrigued to find that Lombardi was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, an area that I am quite familiar with. I found that he studied art at the University of Syracuse, and followed through with his studies despite his lack of drawing ability. I also found that his believed biggest influence on the direction of his art and his interest came from a professor curated show at Syracuse’s Emerson Art Museum.
