Mono y Mono

For the current project in SeeLab Foundations we are working with monotypes, and in doing so have found that it is important to understand the difference between a monotype and a monoprint.

A  Monotype is a form of print which is created by creating marks on an inked plate or on a piece of paper on top of an inked plate in order to create and image which will be individually different from any potential brothers or sisters that it may have.

Monoprint is a singular print in a series created by inking and pressing a plate and piece of paper, often based on an etched plate, lithograph, or collograph.  Each image within the series is the same, and are often limited to a small issue of editions and numbered.
